Susiec – a local resort in Roztocze
Susiec is a small village in the Central Roztocze [RoztoczeŚrodkowe] where the seat of a commune head office of Tomaszów District is located.
It is well-known among tourists thanks to its picturesque location near many sightseeing attractions. Nearby forests of Solska Wilderness [Puszcza Solska] provide fresh air and healing elements.
The village is situated on the edge of Roztocze. Tertiary rocks are carved by Potok Łosiniecki, Jeleń and Tanew Streams that debout to the San River. Rapids hidden under the river's stream create magnificent waterfalls. Locals call them "szumy" or "sopoty". The most beautiful part of the river, with dozens of waterfalls, has been made into a reserve Nad Tanwią and is protected by wildlife conservation laws. Tourists that come to Susiec love to go for walks in this area when they go on the trail called Szlak Szumów. Many other walking trails and bicycle tracks, as well as nature and educational trails cross in this village.
Susiec is filled with tourists in the summer season. Local resorts, guest houses, lodging houses and campsites can have a couple of thousands of tourists at the same time.
Commune Cultural Centre in Susiec, where Folklore Singing Band Szumy and a Susieckie Echo band operate, offers a range of events. A library and a tourist information are also located there.
A Baroque and Neoclassical St. John of Nepomuk Church, a wooden mill from 1925, set by a picturesque pond Morskie Oko and roadside sculptures and chapels are worth seeing when you are in the neighbourhood.
